Built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian between 532 and 537, the Church of Divine Wisdom [Ayasofya (Turkish); Ἁãßá Óïößá (Greek); Sancta Sophia (Latin)] has functioned since 1931 as the Hagie Sophia Museum. Through its hsitory, the church has been an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral, 562 to 1204; a Catholic Church Cathedral, 1204 to 1261; an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral, 1261 to 1453; and an Imperial Mosque, 1453 to 1931.
