Rickers' Corner Cemetery
Also known as Upper Cemetery
Waterbury, Washington County, Vermont, USA
Unlocated cemetery, mentioned as being located in 'Rickers' Corner', Vermont, published by the "Branches and Twigs" newsletter of the Genealogical Society of Vermont, Fall 1972.
Cannot find a Rickers' Corner anywhere online, maybe an old map? Caledonia County has the names "Rickers" in Groton or Rickers' Mill.
However, two of the internments here, Elvina A. Town, and Mary B. Cole, each SEEM to have mentioned parents/husbands buried in the old Waterbury Cemetery, in Washington County. Elvinia has Seth and Susan Town buried in the old Waterbury Cemetery, and there is a grave of a Rufus Place, who is mentioned as the husband of Mary Cole, buried in the old Waterbury Cemetery also -- Therefore, due to that coincidence, I'll place this unlocated cemetery in "Rickers Corner" in Washington County (I have no choice -- FindAGrave requires a location!), probably near Waterbury, VT.
UPDATE SEPT 2013:
Bill DeFlorio ([email protected]) has said that this cemetery can be found on the Dalley Loop hiking trail at Little River State Park. He was there in Sept 2013. There's a map in the link below and a pointer to Ricker's Corners. He describes it thusly:
"If you go to this link you'll find a lot of information about the area. Make sure when you paste it in your browser it's all in one line and has no spaces in the address:
http://www.vtstateparks.com/pdfs/littleriver_historyhike.pdf
There were quite a few farms there 100 years ago but none exist any more and the State bought the land and added it to the park at some point. I don't know if all the stones are readable or not but some are.
Joseph Ricker and his wife are supposedly buried there in unmarked graves near their daughter Elvina Town. There is a second Ricker Cemetery in the area which has Gideon Ricker and related family members. I think that may have some photos with it."
