Note: This burial ground is NOT the same as Airth Cemetery, which, while adjacent to the Churchyard, is a separate, active, secular burial ground established and operated by Falkirk Council.
Replacing the former Airth Parish Church, which stood on ground consecrated in the 1120s, building work on Airth North Church commenced in 1817 and was completed in 1820. The burial ground was opened at the same time with the earliest lairs dating from 1817 when some families "exchanged" their old lair in the former parish churchyard for a new lair. In fact many families transferred their old gravestones to the new location, although it is unlikely any bodies were relocated. The earliest extant stone is dated 1713 and the churchyard was closed to burials some time around the 1940s following the creation of the adjacent Airth Cemetery.
Inscriptions were taken from the publication "Airth North Churchyard" which includes a detailed history of the church and the churchyard. [Bailey, G., Airth North Churchyard (Falkirk, Scotland: Falkirk Local History Society)]
