September 10, 1941
On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 10, 1941, Viola Ward Patrick, Lela Frances Bryant, Rachel Perdita, Ward Stubbs and David Carson Stubbs made a trip in Viola's car to the O'Neal Cemetery, in Hinds County, Mississippi.
The O'Neal Cemetery is about twelve and a half miles beyond the Clinton, Mississippi city limits. We followed the Brownsville-Flora Road from Clinton, crossed the Straight Fence Creek, and just a mile further turned left at the church. One mile and a fifth further we again turned left and followed the road for a mile and an eighth -- almost two miles -- turning up to the house on the right. We parked the car and walked through the house gates father away from the house a few hundred yards and found the old O'Neal Cemetery. It was overgrown with small brush and weeds to such an extent that it was difficult to locate the tombstones. Adjacent to the O'Neal graves were those of some Williams and Sturdivants and one of John R. Varnell. "
