Thomas Parker Esq., grandson of Sir James Parker of Browsholme Hall, Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England was awarded 1100 acres at the head of Fishing Creek where it meets the Tar River in Chowan Parish, North Carolina for paying transport of himself and family plus nine other people into North Carolina August 13, 1707 to a man named John West who had been a transporter since 1668. Thomas developed this property acquiring 3500 acres and later known as the Thomas Parker Plantation on the Fishing Creek, Edgecombe County North Carolina. He named it "Brusom", as Browsholme is pronounced, because his father said it reminded him of home. In 1717 near his death Thomas divided the Plantation into 7 equal parts for his Wife and 6 Children as Jane is listed in the 1717 Tax Digest of Chowan Precinct paying tax on 500 acres of land however, keeping the Plantation in tact for many years. The Plantation Cemetery #1 earliest burial is 1710 and is located where the Fishing Creek meets the Tar River inside the "Ring of Tar" as Parker tradition describes. No markers or field stones have been located unless they are underground. Directly East across the River about 100' from the bank stood the Plantation House and home place of Thomas and Jane Parker Sr. Their son John acquired this section after the death of his mother Jane giving him 1000 acres of the Plantation. Cemetery #2 on the South East side of the Plantation was on son Williams section now located off Hwy. 258, North of Acorn Hill Rd. near Speed renamed the Faithful-Parker Family Cemetery in the 20th Century. Cemetery #3 was located near Leggett on son Josephs section and Cemetery #4 was located on the North side of the Plantation on son Thomas Jr. section near Hwy 97 and Fishing Creek Rd. Cemetery #3 and Cemetery 4# have not been located and unfortunately lost to time. Those burials will be recorded here at Cemetery #1.
