From May 25th 1965 to October 18th 2016 the Foreigners' Cemetery of Incheon was located at 53 CHEONGHAK-DONG. YEONSU-KU. From October 18th 2016 to May 29th 2017 the relocation of the Cemetery from previous to present location was carried out.
Thus, this is the 3rd spot where the Foreigners' cemetery is located. The original first spot opened on March 30th 1914 at 1st Bukseongdeong 1-ga, Jung-gu, Incheon and suffered damages (assuming that several graves damaged or lost) during the Korean war (1950-53).
Since the port of Incheon (then called Chemulpo) was opened in 1883 various foreigners came to work in consulates, interpretation services, church or as customs' officers, doctors and other. Some of them, stayed permanently here. The latter applies also for some of the crew of vessels that had Incheon/Chemulpo as a port of call and visitors.
The cemetery also contains several unknown graves of foreigners, without any information at all or some information in Chinese letters/language that remain without translation. Moreover, some of the graves existed in the previous location (2nd) seem not to have been transferred here.
The Foreigners' Cemetery of Incheon is next to Chinese minority section and it is easy to be found in the vast Incheon Family Park Cemetery.
