Leon was reared on a farm in Galesburg, Illinois. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962. After being drafted into the U. S. Army, he was sent to Officer Candidate School. He was a 2nd Lt. when he served in The Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Leon married in 1969. He was blessed with two children and two grandchildren. He left the military, having achieved the rank of Captain, in 1975. His in-laws were H. C. and Lutie Parkin. Leon loved visiting Ruidoso, New Mexico, with his family. He was a car buff as well. At one time or another, he owned an Austin Healey, a Mustang Fastback, a Datsun 280ZX, a Thunderbird, and finally, his prized Corvette. Lee lived in Southern California from June 1973 until his death. He was an executive in the Aerospace Industry. He retired in the early 2000s. Lee was a huge fan of UCLA Football and Basketball. He also watched every Los Angeles Lakers game that he could. He was an ailurophile.
