The following is an eulogy written and read by me at Becky's memorial service.

This is the day the LORD hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. To every thing there is a season; and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Thank you all for being here today to celebrate the life of my sister Becky Sue Burgey. As many of you may know, my name is Anne, and I am Becky's baby sister.
Becky Sue, was born on July 8, 1954 in Findlay, Ohio to Herbert Smith Johnson, Sr. and Gloria Anna (Connor) Johnson. She was the forth child born to this union, following Herbert Smith, Jr., Patricia Ann , and John Edwin. My mother and her father divorced, and our mother married my father Estil Kirby on September 3, 1955, when Becky was 14 months old. With this new union, my brother Robert Patrick was born in 1957, and I followed seven years later. Even though we had different fathers, step or half siblings was never mentioned or thought of, as to me, and everyone in our family, we were all simply brothers and sisters.
The earliest memories I have of my sister Becky are that of sharing a bedroom together. It was a small bedroom that had two twin beds with pink bedspreads, that were separated by a night stand. Every night, with out fail, I ended up in Becky's bed, snuggled up beside her. Later on, the twin beds gave way to a full size bed, shortly after our mom and dad purchased a new bedroom set. So, needless to say, snuggling at that point, was a given.
Becky and others referred to me as her little shadow, and just like the nursery rhyme goes, "Everywhere that Becky went, Anne was sure to follow." Becky must have been thoroughly annoyed with me at times, or who knows, maybe all the time, but I have no recollection of her ever making me feel that way, I only felt loved and protected.
Friday nights with Becky were the best, as while mom was out grocery shopping with her friend Torchie, Becky would make jiffy pop popcorn and we would watch The Monkeys and The Partrige Family together. When mom returned, without fail, she always had a Tiger Beat magazine for Becky and a new coloring book for me.
Becky graduated in June of 1973 from Findlay Senior High School. At that time, my mother's friend Torchie was the kitchen manager at The Imperial House Motel and restaurant, and offered Becky a position there as salad girl. It was there that Becky met her future husband, Victor Lynn Burgey. Vic was transferred from Imperial House in Columbus, Ohio to Findlay, as the assistant manager.
I remember their first date, and him coming to our home to pick her up. It was shortly after my 10th birthday in September, that they started to date, and it was a short courtship as they married November 15, 1974. Shortly after Becky and Vic married, Vic joined the United States Army, and Vic was stationed in Vicenza, Italy. I believe they were there from 1975-1978. While there, Becky and Vic traveled all over Europe getting to see things that most people can only dream of. Each country that they visited, Becky always made sure she sent mom and I something special. It was while in Paris, France, on top of the Eiffel Tower, that Vic stated, "Buck, can you imagine or wish to be any other place right now in the world?" To which Becky replied, "Yes, Vic, I can, Disney World!" This was a statement that Becky never ever lived down.
Becky and Vic returned to Ohio in 1978 where Vic became an army recruiter. February 12, 1980, Becky and Vic welcomed their only child into this world, Cassie Renee Burgey.
I remember how excited we all were to have a new little one added to our family.
On December 15, 1983 after 9 years of marriage, Becky and Vic divorced. I can tell you that this completely devastated my sister, to the point that we were all worried about her.It was then, that my Mother and Becky took out the Bible and immersed themselves in God's word. I remember many nights of Mom and Becky reading and meditating on God's Word, and could see how it was healing and comforting for her. God was the center of her world from that moment on.
January 15, 1987 my brother John passed away, and our entire family was completely crushed, but nothing compared to what my mother was going through. My mother was never ever the same after John's death, but she endured as well with God's healing and comforting power. Becky was my mother's rock and so much more than helpful, as she took over much of the responsibilites, as my mother's health slowly but steadily declined.
I married and moved to Florida, in 1988, and even though I worried and missed my mother, I knew that Becky was always watching over her. I aways think, but deep down, I really know, everything happens for reasons far beyond on our understaning. For example, moving to Florida and living an 1 1/2 hours away from Disney World. That comment that Becky could never live down finally came true, as she and Cassie came to visit me, and during Becky's birthday month in July of 1989, we all got to go to Disney World.
Becky was a single parent to Cassie, and was an exceptional parent, always putting Cassie's needs and wants above her own. While Cassie was enrolled in the early child development program, Head Start, Becky was ever ready to volunteer. It was through this volunteerism that she obtained a position as a teacher's aid. Becky must have really been a wonderful teacher, as without fail, while I was home visiting, we would be out together shopping or what have you, and one of her past or current students would come up and hug her and be so excited to see her. Afterward, I would look at Becky, like wow, to which, anyone that has known Becky long enough, she would turn to the side, stick her chest out and flip her nose up, and put that little smirk on her face. It was if to say, yes I am special, and would then bust out into laughter. How very true though, she was very special!
One of the most special things about Becky, and there were many, was her love of animals, and her special way with them. They loved her, and you could tell that immediately. For example, our cherished parakeet Sammy. They had such a special bond, that no one else in the family had. Or, my brother Herb's monkey Bonny. Becky would do anything to get to babysit for her niece and nephews, so that she could also be around Bonny. Becky would always take fruit and buy special biscuits to take over for her, without anyone knowing. I would aways tag along, as I was scared to death of Bonny the monkey, but wanted to play with my nephews and niece, and of course you already know, I was Becky's shadow. When we would arrive, the first thing Herb would say is, "Do not let Bonny out!" Becky would wait a few minutes, check the driveway, and then go straight to Bonny's cage and let her out. I swear, that monkey thought Becky was her mother, as she would just wrap her arms around her and not let go. Becky adored that monkey, and I know the feeling was mutual just by watching the two of them together. Then there was Candy, Becky and Vic's dog together. Vic took Candy during the divorce, which added an additional heartbreak for Becky, as Candy was the first pet she ever owned.
There were lots of changes later on after our mother died, and one of those was Becky's new job at Hissan Corporation here in Findlay. With this new job she was able to move into an apartment on Third Street. This apartment was the first apartment that she looked at, and signed for, as she immediately fell in love with it as soon as she saw it. Ironically, when my dad first went to visit her there, you could tell that he was uneasy, and he explained that is was the exact place that he met our mother for the first time. As I said before, things happen for a reason. Anyway, it was here that Becky was truly happy. She and Cassie loved their new place and their freedom to do whatever they wanted. The first thing they did was adopt Jenna from the ASPCA, and soon to arrive a year or two later was a companion for Jenna, Muffy. Becky was in complete love with her two kitties and talked about them all the time, and how much enjoyment they brought her. I asked Becky once, about her love of animals, and she told me, "Anne, animals do not care what you look like, or put any special demands on you. They love you unconditionally and they will never ever hurt you like people do." That was a response that I have never ever forgotten.
Becky had the most beautiful spirt of anyone I have ever known. She had an incredible sense of humor, and an infectious laugh. Her kindness was unparalleled.
When I think of Becky, I always think of the beatitudes, Matthew 3-10, as I feel she fulfilled each and everyone of them.
.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Becky and I talked so often about God, and I knew she had such incredible faith, and I know that she had excepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Once we talked about the song "I Can Only Imagine"by Mercy Me, when it first came out, and we both went back and forth of what we thought we might do when we saw Jesus for the first time. I told her that I thought I would fall to my knees in awe. Becky was not sure what she would do, as she could not decide. Becky was in such frail health, and she was in so much pain with her legs and feet. So, in my mind, I can only imagine that God gently and lovingly picked her up, like any father would do for his child who was in pain and suffering, and then kissed her on the forehead and told her, "Welcome home, my good and faithful servant!
I will be comforted by the following verses in God's holy word:
In James 1:12 we read. "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
In 1 Peter 5:10 we read, "The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
In Romans 8:18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
And probably one of the most comforting verses to me is in Rev. 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."
I have no doubt whatsoever, that Becky is basking in God's beautiful glory, followed up by seeing Mom, John, Sammy, Bonny, Candy, Jenna, and Muffy, again.
