Johnie Magnolia (Downer) (Berry) Reid was born to William Alexander Downer and Eliza Brown Gutrie Downer. She married James Evans Berry and they had 8 children, the youngest my grandmother, Johnie Allene Berry Cox. My Grandpa James passed away when my grandmother was about 9 months old. A few years later, Johnie Magnolia married her second husband, J.B. Reid. They had one daughter.
J.B. Reid was a Primative Baptist preacher in Texas. They say he was rather strict but mellowed out as he got older.
I was too young to remember Grandpa Reid, but I'm told that he always had a pocket of lemon drops that he liked to hand out to the kids.
He passed away in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.
