John Steenhoven Passed Away Saturday at Age 72 (sic!).
Mr. John Steenhoven, resident in Sioux Center for the past four years, passed away Saturday. Mr. Steenhoven came to America in 1904 from Zuidland, Holland, arriving in Boyden on the 4th of March.
Until 1927 the Steenhovens live on a small farm in Boyden, and during these years he was the caretaker of the cemetery there. Four years ago this fall, at the age of 72, Mr. Steenhoven retired from active life and with his wife took up residence in Sioux Center.
Until very recently, he was in the best of health and passed away quietly.
One year ago September 30th, Mr. and Mrs. Steenhoven celebrated their golden wedding, and every one of their children and grandchildren were present.
There remain of Mr. Steenhovens's family, his wife; five children, Rev. John Steenhoven of Melvin, Mrs. Jake Buitendyk of Inwood, Mrs. G. Van Aalsburg of Sheldon, Isaac Steenhoven of Minneota, Minn., Mrs. Dick Vermullem of Rock Valley; twenty-seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Steenhoven plans to move to Rock Valley to be near one of her daughters.
