The Lawrenceville Power Cemetery is located west of the town of Lawrenceville off Rte. 49, at Interstate 99/15 Exit #196.
Beautifully situated on a sloping hill, impeccably maintained and landscaped, with mature, hundred-plus-year-old trees about the cemetery. Visitors are welcomed by the Power Cemetery signage with stone columns at the entrance and exit of the lane that loops through the cemetery. A small, designated area of parking is located near the tool shed at the back east area of the cemetery. A map of the cemetery by Section and Row is posted on the bulletin board at the tool shed.
Veterans are represented in an attractively landscaped memorial created by an Eagle Scout project and the local Boy Scout Troop. The Veterans of the Lawrenceville Power Cemetery are honored by Wreaths Across America in December.
A commemorative bench is dedicated in memoriam of the burials unknown by name or circumstance located in this area of the cemetery.
The oldest recorded burial date is 1812. The cemetery is named "Power Cemetery" in honor of Dr. Simeon Power whose farm property in Lawrence Township over time became the Lawrenceville cemetery. Dr. Power and his wife, Polly Inscho Power are buried in the center section at the top of the knoll.
Caretakers have most often been generations within a family. The current caretakers are long term residents of Lawrenceville, the Losey family. In the late 1970's, early 1980's community volunteers organized a reading of the cemetery and meticulously recorded all visible gravestones and their inscriptions. This record and all previous known records have been combined, consolidated, and matched to Find a Grave in February of 2024. Unfortunately, some previous records may have been lost due to flooding in the area.
Ongoing activities, with support from community organizations, include locating and unearthing gravestones lost in the foliage over time, righting tipped stones and when possible, repairs.
