According to the Lee Township , Madison County, Sec. 18, of the 1875 plat map, Leonard Smith's farm indicates a cemetery in the NE 1/2 section, northeast corner.
Lester Knight was his neighbor.
However in doing research in the iagenweb.org/madison/cemetery records, that cemetery is abandoned and basically obliterated by road construction at some unknown time. It is said that there were about 18-20 burials and at the time of the road construction, the remaining stones were thrown onto the bank, no stones were read or recorded. In 1976, the owner at the time had a stray stone indicating a burial of George W. Knight , son of L & S. Knight.
The Feb 1880 death of George W. Knight was reported in the 1880 Mortality Schedule. ( died of Membranous Croup) Another stone was discovered with the inscription of Reuben Hale D. 1883, 57yrs.
This cemetery appears on the 1876 county map as well as most of the early plat maps and on a county map published in 1876. This information basically came all from the above mentioned web site for which I wish to give credit.
Leonard Smith and his wife Melvina are buried in the Boonville, Iowa, Dallas County, cemetery. This cemetery is a short distance for the abandoned above cemetery.
