|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Cornelian Bay cemetery was opened in 1872 after the four in-town cemeteries were condemned as health hazards. Some, but not all, of those previous graves were moved to Cornelian Bay. The cemetery war originally divided into religious denominations: Church of England, Catholic, Presbyterian, Jewish, Quaker and Baptist, plus Independent, War Graves and Pauper sections. It is estimated that there are 100,000 burials and an additional 60,000 cremations.
