Add PhotosThe historical society records I have located do not show the location of the old Rothgeb Cemetery. The society surveyed the site in 1987, stating it was abandoned and being used for pasture. They included a rough sketch of the few stones still standing, including Jacob's marker. No Rothgeb burials are shown. There is a good chance the site no longer exists.
Thanks to Lloyd Decker for this information.
Additional information from Lloyd Decker received August 2, 2011, after his visit to the Rothgeb Cemetery:
When the Historical Society recorded the site in the 1980s, it was pastureland and not maintained. Now it is wooded and overgrown. The Society reported 23 graves still standing. Now all are flat and embedded in the ground. None are standing. After we uncovered one grave marker, others soon were located. Most were lined up laying side-by-side. The stone for Jacob and two of his young grandchildren were still intact and I was able to photograph all three. All are flush with the ground's surface with weeds/limbs/etc covering. I would guess that in a few years they will be fully covered and 'lost'.
