"As there is nothing on record about our cemetery's beginning, we can only assume that it began of necessity when early settlers established the Pelly Trail from Fort Ellis Manitoba to Fort Pelly, north of Kamsack Sask, from 1824 to 1910. Early gravestones in the oldest part of the cemetery seem to support this fact. Pelly Siding (later Togo), sprang up in the area where Pelly Trail crossed over the Manitoba-Saskatchewan boundary. When the Russo-Japanese War broke out, the townsite company changed the name of Pelly Siding to Togo, in honour of Japanese Admiral, Heichiro Togo, fleet commander in a famous battle of that war."
