One of the oldest cemeteries in Burlington, Job's Lane Cemetery was established by a group of United Empire Loyalists in 1848. The land, a 1/4 acre owned by Asahel Davis, was divided into equal burial plots, which were sold for the sum of 2 pounds each. Buyers included G P Gage, Andrew Gage, Asahel Gage, George Ghent, J H Fisher, Peter Fisher, Thomas Baxter, Gilbert Davis and William Davis (who purchased 2 plots).
Each owner also paid part of the cost of the brick wall and wrought iron gates which enclose the cemetery. The old gates, at one time the original entrance, are on the south side of the cemetery. Entrance to the cemetery is now through two iron gates on the west wide, made necessary by the widening of Plains Road.
Over time the original families sold portions of their plots to other well-known Burlington families such as the Cummins, Pearts, Fosters and Crosbys.
The cemetery was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1995 and is currently under the care of the City of Burlington.
