The church at Kirton of Ardersier was mentioned in 1227 AD. There is then no record of it until the 16th century, after which references became numerous. It stood on the Carse of Ardersier near the bottom of the sea-terrace where only its cemetery remains today. It was rebuilt with clay in 1776 but was again ruinous about 1790. The site of the church was at the highest point of the burial ground, several graves now occupy the site.
