Excerpt from "History of Freedhem" by Mrs. Edwin Swanson dated May 7, 1968:
"As more people moved to the little settlement of Freedhem, a need was created for a Lutheran Church in addition to the Evangelical Church already in existence. On April 27th in 1900 a meeting was held at the A. J. Bergquist home in Buh township to organize this church. It was named Half-Way Creek as Mr. Bergquist wished to have it built on his farm by a creek which flowed through his land. Since more settlers continued to move into the area, the decision was made to erect the building in Freedhem and call it Swedish Lutheran Zion of Half-Way Creek.
Then in January 1905 the amended articles of incorporation were drawn up and the new House of Worship was named Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Zion Congregation of Belle Prairie in the County of Morrison, Minnesota. The following members were those who signed the original articles of incorporation: Oscar Swanson, Gustaf Anderson, John Winterquist, Alfred Swanson, Albin Eckwall, August Johnson, Fred Johnson, C. J. Nelson, Andrew Johnson, Jacob Sundwick, C. A. Johnson, Charles Swanson, William Dahlgren, Theodore Olson and Anton Swanson.
Worship services were held in the Freedhem school-house until the church building was finished in the year 1902. In 1941 the name was again changed to Lutheran Evangelical Zion Church of Freedhem and the interior was remodeled. Among the pastors who served are the following: The Reverends O. B. Nelson, Elof Peterson, C. E. Scholander, L. E. Sjolinder, M. A. Nenrickson, John Larson, Emeroy Johnson (1940), L. E. Blomgren and J. M. Rasmussen.
Then 64 years later, in January of 1966, the little church which had served the earliest settlers was closed and the congregation merged with Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls . . ."
