The cemetery is divided into two sections separated by the construction of the A48 dual carriageway, known as Eastern Avenue. You need to know whether your plot is in the southern Old Cemetery or the northern New Cemetery. There is no dedicated path linking the two halves - you go round by the road bridge. Plots starting with a double-letter section EA to EQ are in the northern cemetery, with main gate in Allensbank Road, CF14 3RA, near the Heath Hospital. All other sections are on the south side of the A48, with its impressive original main entrance (pictured) on Fairoak Road CF24 4PY. You can drive into both parts. The charity organisation Friends of Cathays Cemetery has information on many of the plots, including complete maps of all plot numbers, which you really need, because there are few hints on the ground. If you cannot find the required name this way, you need to contact Cardiff Bereavement Services.
