The Pennington Cemetery (also known as North Butte Cemetery) is in North Butte, about six miles west of Live Oak on Pennington Road. The earliest tombstone is a memorial of Sylvanus Sanborn who died in 1859. Pennington was an unincorporated area in Sutter County and located on the north edge of the Sutter Buttes, elevation 85 ft. Named for John T. Pennington. North Butte post office was established near Pennington from 1874-1875. Pennington post office was established from 1881-1917.
