The Homestead Cemetery was first incorporated in 1886 to serve the community in the Monongahela Valley. The members of our community who rest peacefully within its grounds have shaped the neighboring boroughs in events from the Homestead Steel Strike, the Great Depression, have fought in War, men and women who fought for racial and social justice from the Negro League in baseball to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. All are remembered as integral parts of our region.

After a period of years where the cemetery had fallen into abandonment and neglect, members of the local community organized the new Homestead Cemetery Association, not just to have the cemetery simply function, but to thrive as a testament and memorial to the great men and women of the Steel Valley area who shaped who we are today.

Over the next few years, the Homestead Cemetery Association will manage to bring the Homestead Cemetery back to a status of self-sustainment into perpetuity. We also have the goal of transcribing all remaining cemetery records and entering the data onto the Memorial Pages here on Find-a-Grave.
