Island Pond Cemetery is a sprawling rural cemetery. Hills, curves and winding roads make it easy to get lost. As you enter, there are graves from the late 1800s and early 1900s. If you bear left and drive a bit you will see the gravestones of the earliest settlers. Kindricks,Weeks/Weekes and Small families. The oldest burial is George Weekes who died April 1772 but the stone representing his grave is more recent. The oldest ancient stone in the cemetery on that same hill is for Captain Elijah Small who died Novemeber 1, 1778.
Beyond that point and the rest of the cemetery recent burials from the 1950s to present day. Roads are well marked and named. Storms from 2010-2020 have cleared many tall trees that made the place less than sunny. Now sun shines throughout. It is a detour for those using the bike path nearby.
