Cemetery notes and/or description: The Kern River Valley Historical Cemetery, formally known as Kernville Cemetery, which is off of Wofford Blvd, has burials dating back to the 1870's. The names in this cemetery have been provided by the courtesy of the Kern River Valley Cemetery District Board Members. There was a fire in the 1970's that burned the original Kern River Cemetery Historical Cemetery records; the cemetery has attempted to duplicate these records. There are some names missing, of the interred graves that do not have headstones in the cemetery or any records of the burial. If you are aware of any names that needed to be added please contact me. If the interment you are looking for is more recent and you don't find it here, it maybe in the Kern River Valley Cemetery at 8441 Burlando Rd, Wofford Heights.
This cemetery has been used in many Hollywood movies studios, to make many scenes in western movies. A few years ago, one the studios felt that the film needed more headstones in the cemetery. They then made and placed many wooden headstones in the cemetery. Those wooden headstones remain to this day.
Driving directions. This cemetery is on the river side of Burlando Rd off of Wofford Blvd. Driving here, you will pass the town of Wofford Heights and make a right turn off of Burlando Rd onto Wofford Blvd. After you make a right turn onto Wofford Blvd you will very quickly come to a fork in the road, take the left fork and curve around. You will come to the cemetery very shortly. The cemetery can be seen on the right side of the road from Burlando Rd looking out toward the river, down an embankment. If you reach the 1st driveway to the new Kern River Valley Cemetery on the left on Burlndo Rd you have gone to far and missed Wofford Blvd turnoff.
