The Lane Cemetery originated as a family graveyard, with a first burial date recorded as 1797. Documentation from the original 1989 transcriptions, show more than 485 known gravestones, with historical notes for 9 stones that had been recorded earlier (1963, 1967, C. Taylor) and may no longer be visible.
The cemetery occupies three hillsides with a driveway curving around the central knoll which might have been the site of the original log chapel.
