The two cemeteries are separated with only a few poles marking the boundaries. Gospel Hall burials mainly are directly beside their church and there is one under the tree near the driveway.
This church is regarded as a Heritage Site and is one of the few, surviving timber constructed Methodist Churches . It's history goes back to at least 1859. Originally the small congregation had a log cabin which was near the present site. The story goes back to Samuel French, who came from Gloucester England in 1832, settled in Waverley Ontario and bought land for a farm in 1848 . It was Locally known as French's Corners. A cemetery was on the corner, part of his farm. Samuel French died in 1852 and his, was the first recorded burial. The church was built and opened in 1867-68. The land wasn't deeded at the time but later in 1874, Samuel's son Thomas & his wife sold the 3/4 acre parcel of land located on the NE quarter of the lot, to the trustees of French's congregation of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Eventually , after union, the Wesleyan Methodist Church became a part of the United Church. The adjacent cemetery is located West of the church. The Waverley United cemetery, was granted land to expand its cemetery in recent years. This acquisition is right beside the Gospel Hall Cemetery on the south and West, directly running alongside the fence. A row of trees and a few poles marks part of the boundary, which separates it from the Gospel Hall cemetery. Through the years the church has been expanded, first in 1883 the contractor being J.B. Irwin. The interior was redecorated in 1944 and windows replaced in 1954. A building addition was added to the SE side of the church and and a Memorial Tower was built in 1961 to replace the front porch. A larger renovation happened in 1971. This is an active church and cemetery.
