Cemetery notes and/or description: The Heweytown Cemetery was an extended family cemetery for the Hewey Family, they settled so far out of town, that the settlement became a small town. The cemetery was originally located by the road, when the Heweytown Post Office was built the most of the stones were moved. It is rumored that one large headstone could be seen as the top step of the cellar foundation stairs. Heweytown Cemetery was also notorious for a mass grave. When A Small Pox epidemic hit Bucksport, 3 wagons left one night loaded with dead and dying. All ended up in a mass grave located in this cemetery. They believed that if they buried the dead away from civilization, the disease would not spread. Later Burials were also incorporated into this cemetery, and all are considered among the lost now.
