|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
First recorded burial was in 1879 and was just the Bundaberg Cemetery. There were 16 recorded burials that year. Now in excess of 23,000.
Alexander Walker and Walter Adams worried the growing town of Bundaberg would encroach the cemetery. In September 5th 1868 the original cemetery was duly closed with the remains exhumed and moved to either the General Cemetery or the Catholic Cemetery site in Fitzgerald Street in 1873.
The records for six years of burials were lost along with the original exhumed.
A Cemetery Trust was formed and managed the cemetery until 2001 and then Bundaberg Council took over
There are several burial options including ashes and lawn burials. The areas for interment & placement are: General Section, Lawn Section, Children's, Memorial Walls, Rose Gardens, Rock Gardens.
