Cemetery notes and/or description: Gettysburg National Military Park is a National park now covering over 3900 acres, and includes the Gettysburg National Cemetery and Gettysburg's public Evergreen Cemetery, as well as famous battle locations, the visitor center and the Gettysburg Cyclorama. The park was initiated in 1864, and was comprised of only 540 acres in 1888.
The park contains over 1320 monuments and markers, as well as 410 cannons and 148 historic buildings. These monuments are tributes to regiments, divisions, and other military units, while a few record the spot where prominent individuals fell during battle.
Memorials for individuals and actual burials should be placed in the Gettysburg National Cemetery
