Located in the community of North Head, the cemetery can be found around and behind the Church of Ascension (Anglican Church of Canada). The cemetery/church is located on the top of a hill, on Route 776, approx. 1 km from the ferry landing (and about 500 meters prior to the sharp turn of Tatton's Corner). The cemetery is actually two parts: one section, the older section, has graves located around the church, while the newer section is located further behind the church, along Cemetery Lane (Whale Cove Road). The newer section (NB PID# 15005317) was official purchased by the Village of Grand Manan in 1990 when the property was purchased from Sarah and Linda Lambert, however the cemetery was establish on the parcel of land well before then. The older section (NB PID# 01290683 ) includes the older part of the cemetery and the church; the Church of the Ascension was built in 1881 and the associated hall, Covert Hall, was built in 1904. However the Anglican Church was active on Grand Manan as early as the 1850s and prior to the building of the church, served as a North Head burial extension of the St. Paul's Anglican Church. The Anglican Church of Canada's Parish of Grand Manan, which covers the island of Grand Manan, includes two church buildings: Church of the Ascension in North Head and St. Paul's in Grand Harbour. There are over 825 known burials in the cemetery. One of the earliest known burials is that of Robert McFarland who died in 1821.
