Bacon-Henley Cemetery
Also known as Henley Cemetery
Monroe County, Tennessee, USA
The cemetery was established on the Col. David Henley plantation sometime in the late 18th century. Col. Henley was one of General George Washington's most able commanders during the Revolution and became Indian agent in East Tennessee after the war. HIs children maintained the land through generations and married into the Bacon family, who owned the land and ran Bacon's Ferry until the TVA's Tellico dam on the Little Tennessee River flooded the historic farm in 1979. The cemetery contains at least 25 family burials or cenotaphs, likely more if unmarked graves, including those of the family's slaves, are included.
