Upper Long Pond Road Cemetery
Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine, USA
Through the 1800's names like Colby, Stubbs, Rideout, Haynes were known to live and thrive on this land. School Houses were established, and every aspect of life in that time could be found on that road. For whatever reason, the families died off, and the younger generation moved away leaving the cemetery behind. Over the decades of non-use, as we know often happened, stones fell, stones were broken and vandalized, till finally no stone remains. There are claims that the few stones that remained were moved exactly like the Old Methodist Church Cemetery. These stones were illegally removed, obliterating along with all evidence that the cemetery even existed. In this case they were destroyed or thrown away to hide the crime, some may have been moved to the nearby Hillside Cemetery established much later then this cemetery. No one has been held accountable, and no stone is left to mark the spot. Through research and first hand accounts, I can guarantee the remains of dozens, up to even 100's of bodies are buried in this spot. If you look at the land out line, you can still see the borders of the Cemetery.
The search is ongoing.
Oddly the exact location doesn't even register on the Google interactive map. For those GPS enthusiasts the exact coordinates are 44.643853, -68.686116
