Nundah Cemetery is located 10 kilometres north of Brisbane CBD, encompassing almost four acres. This heritage listed ceremony was originally known as 'German Station Cemetery' with the first recorded burial taking place in 1873.
Some of the early graves are not recorded and or not located. In the burial register 99999 will form part of the plot number because it is unlocated. Some have a section and row number. The North Brisbane burial ground, also known as Milton or Paddington Cemetery, was closed around 1875 and some graves and or headstones were moved to Nundah.
When matching the council online burial register to the Qld births, marriages and deaths register it appears that some graves were recorded in the parents' name, as the only death around that time was of a child of the parent whose name or initial is on the burial register. Some burials are only backed up by a mention in a funeral notice.
On the council website it is stated that the records were presumed to be lost due to flooding and that the records are "sketchy". If you provide council with a death certificate they will update the burial record. All enquiries are managed by Toowong Cemetery | Brisbane City Council.
