The 17th century St. Peter's Church was the joint parish church for Patrick and German until 1714, and then for German, including Peel, until 1893 when the present parish cathedral was consecrated. "There are five Vicars of the Parish buried in the Churchyard:
John Woods 1730-1740
John Crane 1741-1742
Robert Christian . 1752-1754
Henry Corlett 1761-1801
James Gelling 1801-1838
Though the tombstone of Robert Christian has disappeared.
. . . the oldest inscribed stone in the churchyard . . . is dated 1663 and records the death of ' Elin Kisig.' . . Burials also took place within the church itself from a very early period. Parishioners had the right to inter their dead beneath the family pew. . . The last burial to take place within the Church was in 1839, and the last burial in the churchyard was — by special permission — in 1887." - from J. J. Joughin, 1924
