This beautiful well-maintained cemetery with flat grounds and many shade trees is managed by the City of Brandon. It has five distinct sections, distinguishable as follows:

- Regular (i.e., upright markers)

- Lawn (i.e., flat markers only)

- Catholic

- Cremation

- Columbarium

There is a part of the cemetery which contains the memorials of many war veterans.

Established in 1882, by the number of graves and memorials, it is recognized as among the five largest cemeteries in the province. Some of the markers are known to be engraved in scripts and alphabets that are not the Latin alphabet.

The City of Brandon is autonomous, but it is adjacent to the surrounding Rural Municipalities of Elton and Cornwallis, for the latter of which it also serves as the administrative centre

Having played an important role in the development of Western Manitoba, the City's story involves a broad cross-section of the people who built it. A part of their stories, from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1961 is told in the volume "Brandon: A City 1881-1961" and there are several others. Free digital versions of these and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0015), transcribed by a member or members in 1982 and updated in 2022. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI).
