|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Fort Stewart is a closed military installation and you must possess a military/Dept of Defense ID or obtain a visitor's pass at the Pass Office on Gen Stewart Way outside the main gate to gain entrance.
These are memorials not burials. The evidence of their bravery and sacrifice lies in what's known as Warriors' Walk at Fort Stewart is a long path of Eastern red bud trees. Each tree represents a soldier from the 3rd Infantry Division who has died since 2003, when the United States invaded Iraq. Please note: The listings are memorial cenotaphs only. Actual burials are elsewhere.
What is a cenotaph? How do I have a memorial designated as a cenotaph?
A cenotaph is a tomb or a monument erected in honor of a person or group of persons whose remains are buried elsewhere. It can also be the initial marker for a person who has since been interred elsewhere.
To add a cenotaph, create a memorial just like any other. Then email firstname.lastname@example.org with a link to the memorial and a message to mark it as a cenotaph.
