This cemetery has two locations. The first one, the largest part, is located on CR 2421 and the second part is located behind the Peoria Community Center and referred to as the Roger T. Davidson Peoria Cemetery Addition. The main cemetery has the sign on a brick wall, and it is a sprawling property covered with trees and lush plantings. One particular grove of trees are so dense I doubt sunshine ever reaches a headstone. There are many plots surrounded by antique fencing. Curbing is found throughout this property, which is clean and does have a Historical Marker. Older taller headstones are found on the grounds, and one open face book headstone is rare. Due to the rural setting it is quiet and this cemetery poses as a tranquil place to visit and roam thru the markers, reading the transcriptions while enjoying the shade of the various trees. There are almost 2,500 burials. The second location is not fenced and has burials scattered on all sides. The sign is located on a large brick wall which has cedar trees on either side. This property is clean and has plenty of room for expansion. There is curbing between the plots. (2018)
Historical Marker:
Established in 1830s as this community developed. First plot was donated by J. R. DeArman; 4 generations of the William Thomas Hill family made later grants. A child fatally bitten by a rattlesnake was first to be buried here. Many rural residents and transients lie in unmarked graves.
