The Visitation Sisters came from Évian on July 22, 1627 and set themselves up on Rue Vallon. Ten years later they moved to Rue des Granges for good and slowly built convent buildings and a chapel, which was consecrated in 1684. This monastery's layout was designed by St Jeanne-de-Chantal. They returned in 1835 after being forced to leave during the French Revolution and in 1968 they moved their monastery to Marclaz near Thonon-les-Bains.

Tomb of Servant of God, Sr Marie-Marthe Chambon VHM
First buried in the cemetery of Chambéry, the mortal remains of Sr Marie-Marthe were then returned to the Visitation monastery and buried within the Chapelle de Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs. When the monastery was transferred from Chambery to Saint-Pierre d'Albigny (1957), the nuns transferred the body of their holy sister. And when, in 2005, the Visitation of Saint-Pierre d'Albigny had to close and merged with that of Marclaz (near Thonon les Bains), the remains of Sr Marie-Marthe were entombed in the chapel of the monastery.
