John King established the King Cemetery about 1840, when he came to Butler County from Dallas County and Lowndes County. Both he and his wife Mary Day (daughter of Frederick and Nancy Day) are buried there with many other relatives. They married June 22, 1824 in Dallas County (Dallas Co. Marriage Book 1, page 60), and were counted in the 1830 Dallas County census. John King bought land in Butler County in 1836 and Lowndes County in 1837, and he was counted in the 1840 Butler County census.
The first recorded/known survey of the King family cemetery was done in March 1966 by John King's descendants, Mrs. Exa Foster Dean (1903-2003) and Miss Clera Phelps (1916-1988). This survey was published in The Butler County Historical Society Quarterly, Vol. III, No. 2, June 1967. Some of the data that these ladies listed in the 1966 survey was from personal knowledge and NOT inscribed on the cemetery markers, and they also made notes of various family members known to be buried in this cemetery in unmarked graves. Other people have been identified from obituaries, wills and estate records as buried in this cemetery.
LOCATION: The King Cemetery is located in the northeast corner of Butler County on the east side of County Road 62 (Steiner Store Road), just north of Spring Creek Church Road.
