James L. Welch, 77, of Old Bridge died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at home.

Funeral services will be held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Rt. 9, Old Bridge, N.J. on Friday, March 23, 2007, at 9 a.m., followed by church services at 10:30 a.m. in Garden State Baptist Church, Old Bridge. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tributes can be posted at www.mem.com.

Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Welch lived in Cranford and Elizabeth before moving to Old Bridge eight years ago.

Mr. Welch was a quality control inspector for Hayward Manufacturing in Elizabeth for 10 years before retiring in 1994.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a faithful member of the Garden State Baptist Church in Old Bridge. James was the No. 1 Yankee fan.

Mr. Welch was predeceased by his wife, Alberta Joell Welch, and his sister, Marge Furiero, in 2001.

He is survived by his five sons, Robert A. Welch of Edison, Thomas D. and his wife, Ellaura Welch of Avenel, James E. and his wife, Ann Welch, of Virginia Beach, Va., Jeffrey G. and his wife, Kathy Welch, of Avenel and Michael S. and his wife, Deanna Welch, of Anna, Texas; his three daughters, Colleen A. and her husband, Karl Wuelfing of Lancaster, Pa., Linda D. Mahan of Linden and Margaret J. Davidson of Linden; his brother, Jack Welch of Lake Worth, Fla.; his sister, Leona McGuire of Howell; his 13 grandchildren; his eight greatgrandchildren, and his best friend, May Boyce.
