Musician. He was a founding member of the funk-music ensemble The Ohio Players. In addition to providing lead vocals, Bonner was known for his guitar playing style. Initially formed as The Ohio Untouchables during the early 1960s, their first notable recording was the providing of backing instrumental work with the group The Falcons which featured Wilson Pickett on lead vocals on the hit "I Found a Love" (1962). Not long after this experience, they landed a spot as the house band for the Compass record label in New York, followed by stints with Capitol and RubberTown Sounds. By now calling themselves The Ohio Players, they came under the influence of the George Clinton funk music style and scored a gold record with "Funky Worm" (1972). During the mid 1970s, they had three additional gold records with "Skin Tight" (1974), "Fire" (1974) and their signature hit "Love Rollercoaster" (1975). The group continued to record throughout the 1980s and yielded the minor hit "Sweat" (1988). Bonner remained an active member along with drummer James 'Diamond' Williams during the 1990s.
