Major League Baseball Player. For eight seasons (1970 to 1977), he played at the catcher, first-baseman and third-baseman positions with the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Montreal Expos and Oakland Athletics. Signed by the Milwaukee Braves during the 1st-round of the 1965 Amateur Draft, he marked his Major League debut four years following the franchise's relocation to Atlanta, as a late season call-up on September 13th, 1970. He made the most of his abbreviate time that year and recorded 7 hits in 10 games for a .368 batting average. Williams had an immediate impact on the league during his first full season (1971), as he produced 33 home runs with 87 runs-driven-in and for his efforts, he was awarded National League Rookie of the Year honors with the Atlanta Braves. The following season (1972), he duplicated his RBI total and in 1973 after he was dealt to Baltimore, Williams again topped the 80 RBI mark. He experienced the first of two trips to the postseason (1973 and 1974 ALCS) and yielded 5 hits which included a home run during the 1973 American League Championship Series. In 889 regular season games, he compiled 756 hits with 138 home runs and a .247 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, he worked for Sensient Technologies Corporation, a Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical company as a Supervisor for 28 years.
