Spanish Politician. He was the leader of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya. He served as minister of Navy of the Sapnish Republic and President of the Catalan Parliament. In 1933 he became President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan Government. He was the Catalan President during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). After the War he exiled to France in 1939. In September 1940 he was arrested and extradited to Spain by German Agents. He was put to death in compliance with a legal sentence at Montjuïc Castle (Barcelona).
