Naval Archaeologist. He was a Swedish marine technician most noted for having discovered the wreck of the 1628 Swedish galleon Vasa, at Stockholm Harbor in 1956. From 1959 to 1961, he conducted her salvage which resulted in the most complete ship of the era and is on display at the Stockholm Maritime Museum. He also participated in the exploration and salvage of the wrecks Kronan, Riksapplet, Resande Man and Lybska Svan.
