U.S. Congressman. Born the son of U.S. Representative and Senator, John H. Bankhead, he graduated from the University of Alabama, in 1893, from the Georgetown University Law School Washington, D.C., in 1895, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives, (1900-01), Huntsville City Attorney, (1898-1902) and solicitor of the fourteenth judicial circuit of Alabama, (1910-14). In 1917, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fifth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1940. Shortly after his final term, he died at the age of 66.
