Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Rathdowney, Ireland, he served as a Private, in the 86th Regiment of Foot, British Army. On April 3, 1858, Private Pearson was a member of the storming on the attack on Jhansi, India. He attacked a number of armed rebels, one of whom he killed and bayoneted two others. He also brought in a wounded comrade under a heavy fire with himself being wounded in the attack. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on May 1, 1860 and later achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge from the Army, he went on to be the Prison Governor in Madras, India, where he died at age 77.
