Matilda was the daughter of Alfred and Louisa Stuart Church. Though born in North Carolina, Tilly grew up in Jackson County, Alabama. After Alfred's death during the Civil War and Louisa's death a few years later, Tilly lived with Valentine and Kezia McCollum and their children near Pisgah, Alabama. She married Joe Collier, a widower, relatively late in life, and they did not have children. She was a wonderful influence on nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and gg-nieces and nephews -- even some who were born after she had died.
