Author. She will be remembered for her bestselling series "The Cazalet Chronicles" which included the novels "The Light Years" (1990), "Marking Time" (1991), "Confusion" (1993) and "Casting Off" (1995). Her father distinguished himself as a soldier during World War I and upon his return home, he ran the family's timber business. Her mother was a former ballet dancer who sacrificed her career to raise a family. Elizabeth received her education at private schools and went on to study Drama at the London Mash Theatre and the Scott Thorndyke Student Repertory. After a brief period of acting, she utilized her beauty for modeling. At the age of eighteen, she married conservationist Peter Scott and their union produced a daughter. During World War II, she served as an Air Raid Warden and was also a radio broadcaster. Her passion for writing was ignited during this time and in 1951, she made her debut as a novelist with "The Beautiful Visit". During that year, she also saw her marriage with Scott end. She was briefly married a second time but that union ended in divorce. She married author Kingsley Amis in 1965, however the result would be the same fate as the previous marriages eighteen-years later. Beginning in the 1970s, she wrote scripts for such British TV programs as "Upstairs, Downstairs", "Something in Disguise" and the screenplay for the motion picture "Getting it Right" (1989). Her final sequel of the "Cazalet" series "All Change" was published in November of 2013.
