U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States in 1866, he was employed in the coal mines at the age of twelve and worked in the Pennsylvania railroad service in 1878. He was in the production of oil in 1904, a member of the Allegheny Common Council, a member of the Pittsburgh City Council, (1906-19) and chairman of the Order of Railroad Conductors, of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He also was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1914-19). In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1923. Not seeking reelection, he served as chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors and engaged in the production of oil, until his death at age 63.
