American Actress and Singer. Stritch, the youngest of three girls and the only one to enter show business, spent 12 years at the Sacred Heart Catholic Girls School, and in 1944, when she arrived in New York, lived in a convent while taking drama classes. In 1946, she made her Broadway debut in the comedy 'Loco'. Among other Broadway credits include her Tony Award nominated roles in 'Bus Stop' (1955), 'Sail Away' (1961), 'Company' (1970), the 1996 revival of the play 'A Delicate Balance' and her Tony Award winning one-woman show 'Elaine Stritch at Liberty' (2001). She first appeared on television in 'The Growing Paynes' in 1949 and went on to appear in such TV shows as 'Kraft Theater', 'Goodyear Playhouse', 'The Edge of Night', 'The Alcoa Hour', 'Adventures in Paradise', 'My Sister Eileen', 'Pollyanna', 'Two's Company' and 'Head of the Class'. For her work on TV she was nominated for an Emmy Award eight times and won three Prime-Time Emmy's for her role on '30 Rock'. Among films she appeared in were 'A Farewell to Arms' (1957), 'Kiss Her Goodbye' (1959), 'Who Killed Teddy Bear' (1965), 'Too Many Thieves' (1967), 'The Spiral Staircase' (1975), 'September' (1987), 'Cadillac Man' (1990), 'Out to Sea' (1997), 'Autumn in New York' (2000), 'Monster-in-Law' (2005) and 'River of Fundament' (2014). Stritch, who was the subject of the documentary, 'Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me', died of natural causes.
