Lloyd M. Bentsen, Jr:Sir its been a pleasure hearing you speak during your campaign for vice-president in 1988 and thank you for being a interesting secteratary of treasury under Clinton and helping John Kerry in 2004 for the presidency, thanks your great work,Remembering you 7 years later, may you rest in peace! In 1999 President Clinton awarded you the Presidential Medal of Freedom, one of the nation's highest honors given to civilians. You appeared in the summer of 2004 at the portrait unveilings at the White House of former President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. It was on this day in 2006, at his home in Houston at the age of 85 that you passed away. You are survived by your wife, three children, and six grandchildren. Your funeral was held on May 30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, where Bentsen and your wife had been members for many years. You were interred in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Former president Bill Clinton, who was a close friend, delivered a eulogy. As a primary architect of the Clinton economic plan, you contributed to a $500 billion reduction in the deficit, launching the longest period of economic growth since World War II. More than 5 million new jobs were created during your tenure as Secretary of the treasury. As a Senator, you had been a staunch advocate of reducing federal budget deficits. As Secretary of the Treasury, you was a principal architect and chief spokesman for Clinton's first budget which contributed to the first federal budget surplus in 40 years, the lowest inflation and unemployment rates in 30 years, and the longest economic expansion since the 1960s.You helped win crucial Republican votes to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). You also was pivotal in winning passage of the 1994 crime bill which banned assault rifles.

I'm still having a hard time trying to understand what your remark about JFK had to do with the point that Quayle was making, but since the press was on your side I guess it did'nt matter. Thank you for your service.
